A Dance Party Wedding at The Casino at Lakemont Park

We bought a dozen clear umbrellas in anticipation of this wedding. So, you know it didn’t rain on us. But we were prepared! It ended up being a perfectly gorgeous day for photo!

If there’s one thing you should know about Ben and Paisley it’s that they are super laid back. From creating their timeline, to talking about the real possibility that it would rain right in the middle of bridal party portraits, there was never any stress. They were so damn happy all day. Nothing ruffled their feathers. For portraits, we used Mount Assisi Gardens which is part of the Franciscan Friars grounds near Saint Francis. Then we headed to their reception venue – The Casino at Lakemont.

This day was such a blast from start to finish. And I’m telling you, their wedding had the biggest dance party of any wedding we’ve ever been a part of. Everyone danced. Like literally everyone. And they danced the whole night. Congratulations to these two – thank you so much for having us be a part of it!

The Most Beautiful Wedding Day at Whispering Hollow Estate

We had the honor of filming the wedding of Liz & Joel and, my-oh-my, what a beautiful day it was! Liz’s bridesmaids were super sweet, and Joel’s groomsmen provided the comedy. The speech Joel’s best man gave is still one of our favorites! So much fun!

Working with the uber-talented Jason Bafile on photo, we caught some gorgeous candids and had a blast at the stunning Whisper Hollow Estate! What can we say about these two? Such kind, gracious, and sweet people. Oh, and we forgot to mention...you can also tell they are super in love. Just watch the teaser!

My friend Nate Pearson is a super awesome artist. He created a pop-punk, emo enamel pin company last year and the pins are rad. I’m so happy to have had the pleasure to take product photos of his pins. If you like Taking Back Sunday, Dashboard Confessional, Say Anything, or Blink 182, you really should check out his pins. Excited to continue to work with you, Nate! Hands Down.

Carlton Family Photo Session - Stackhouse Park in Johnstown, PA

We had the opportunity to photograph the Carlton family at the end of February. The weather cooperated with us and we actually had some sunshine! Alexa and her family were super sweet and were open to all of our crazy ideas. They walked down the middle of the street for us by the Inclined Plane; they laid on a blanket in the snow for us at Stackhouse Park. Alexa’s boys were happy to chase one another around and throw snow at their mom. It really was an amazing day. So happy to have met you Alexa and company!

Hello you!

We haven’t introduced ourselves yet...at least not through the blog. We’re Cory and Jen from This Year Photo Co. Cory is the photography and videographer wizard. Jen is the business lady who is teaching herself how to be a better photographer and marketing wizard. We have a little photography company and big dreams. We’re introverts who have historically thought that date night meant pj’s and blankets on the couch. But, we’re working on putting ourselves out there to meet new people, grow our business, and make this our career. We want to meet you and photograph your life, your love. We want to because...well...it’s what we love to do.

Morning/afternoon/evening coffee

I've been drinking Happy Mug Coffee for the past 7 years, and they are definitely a company I can get behind. They offer transparency about where they source their beans and the coffee is roasted just before shipping. Not to mention, the coffee tastes awesome! I've never been disappointed. They are located right here in PA, up in the Northwest, where they get all that snow. Please go and support them.

Just have fun and shoot film

It’s all about fun, right? That’s why I got into photography, right? It used to be nothing but fun. Sometimes you forget that.

This year I started shooting film again when I acquired a medium format camera from a co-worker. That also made me want to pull out the old 35mm from under the bed, locked away in a tupperware container, and start shooting with that again. For fun! So, that’s what I did. I decided that one days the family is hanging in the yard, that I would load up some 400 into the 35 and just shoot. Then weeks or months down the road, I’ll get back a few rolls of developed film and just enjoy see my family on film from that random day.

So, here’s a post just to show off some of those pictures. They’re not all great or perfect or even in focus, but whatya gonna do! insert shrug emjoi

Don't Stop Fighting

Attending the Black Lives Matter march in Johnstown a few weeks ago sparked something in me that made me feel that I should be doing some kind of photojournalism with my life. This is not the first time I’ve felt like this about photojournalism. There’s something about blending in and documenting. The thought of making that my career excites me, but also terrifies me. Also, the thought of trying to make that happen makes my head spin. Questions like: How? Where to start? Who to talk to?

It really makes me wonder what the hell am I doing, and why am I not doing something that makes me feel like that march did.

Below are a few of the pictures from the march. You can view the rest here, and I encourage you while you’re there, to please donate to the organizations fighting racial injustice.

First Post: New Life

I miss blogging and I miss sharing all the photos I’ve captured. With social media nowadays it’s easy to only post photos that you feel people will click the like button for, instead of posting everything you create and love. That’s why I’m getting back to where I first starting sharing my photos and that was on a blog. I’m pretty sure back in 2009 or 2010 when I ran a blog on blogger, maybe a handful of people looked at it, mostly people I knew. It was still great, though, to share everything I wanted and to just put what I wanted out there. Now photos I feel that are not, “Instagram worthy” are just sitting on my hard drive just waiting to be backed up to my external hard drive and then eventually forgotten about. Now I know most people wont look at this and that’s fine. I’m choosing to do this just for my own damn sanity and that’s fine.
